Eleven receive honorary Florida FFA membership

Orlando, Fla. – Eleven individuals received honorary membership in the Florida FFA Association at the 84th Annual Florida FFA State Convention.

The individuals received the “Honorary State FFA Degree” for their generosity and service to the organization. Many have served as judges for FFA events, provided funding to underwrite FFA programs, supported the efforts of FFA advisors, and promoted Florida FFA.

The eleven receiving honorary membership were Hal Moon, Al Wysocki, Saundra TenBroeck, Ray Clark, Dennis Der, Vina Jean Banks, Walter Brown, Francis “Gene” Dulac, Willie Veal, Ricky Telg and Randy Hanna.

Kyle Garner recognized as winner of the Agricultural Electrification Essay CDE

Orlando, Fla. – The winner of the Agricultural Electrification Essay Career Development Event is Kyle Garner of the Clermont FFA Chapter. Garner was recognized at the 84th Annual Florida Sate FFA Convention.

Other finalists in the Agricultural Electrification Essay CDE were Faith Behanna of the Tomlin FFA Chapter, Dalaney Hooten of the South Sumter FFA Chapter, Caleigh Robinson of the Bronson FFA Chapter, and Savana Garrison of the Tomlin FFA Chapter. The top five finalists received their awards, sponsored by the Gulf Power Company.

Williston Jr. FFA Chapter announced as winner of the Ag Business Management CDE

Orlando, Fla. The winner of the Ag Business Management Career Development Event is the Williston Jr. FFA Chapter. Team members were recognized at the 84th Annual Florida FFA State Convention.

The Williston Jr. FFA Chapter is comprised of team members Quincy Cason, Ty Cramer, Bradley Jones and Samantha Sandlin. Through the Ag Business Management CDE, students are able to develop business management skills and learn to apply economic principles to agriculture and agribusiness.

Other chapter finalists in the Ag Business Management CDE were the Blountstown FFA Chapter with team members Trent Smith, Harrison Coley, Saad Farooqi and Mitchell Darnell; the Leesburg FFA Chapter with team members Kaitlin McKenney, Amy Odom, Jared Myer and Jeremy Odom; the South Sumter Sr. FFA Chapter with team members Caitlyn Vaughn, Celie Hodges, Sidney Helms and Chelsey Vaughn; and the Sneads FFA Chapter with team members Mitchell Hines, Leah Williams, Taylor Reed and Cole Hamilton. The top finalists received their awards, sponsored by Farmers Cooperative, Inc. and the Florida Farm Bureau Federation.

Tomlin Middle School FFA Chapter Named Top Opening and Closing Ceremony Team

Orlando, Fla. – The Tomlin Middle School FFA Chapter won the State Opening and Closing Ceremonies Career Development Event. The chapter was recognized at the 84th Annual State FFA Convention.

The Opening Ceremonies Career Development Event requires team members to perform the official ceremonies that are used to open and close FFA meetings. Participants are judged on their accuracy, poise and delivery.

The top five teams in the state received trophies from the state sponsor, Florida Association of Agricultural Educators. Other chapters in the top five that were recognized:

5th place: Lake Asbury Middle

4th place: Williston Middle

3rd place: Clermont Middle

2nd place: McLaughlin Middle

Tomlin FFA Chapter members who participated in the event include Anna Conrad, Clay Joyner, Meredith DelCastillo, Ally Baker, Hayley Liley, Ethan Bond and Arie Fry. Jason Steward and Emily Petrilli are the chapter advisors.

Morgan Carlton Wins Job Interview Career Development Event

Orlando, Fla. – Morgan Carlton of the Kathleen FFA Chapter won the Job Interview Career Development Event. Carlton was honored at the 84th Annual State FFA Convention.

The purpose of the job interview event is for FFA members to develop, practice and demonstrate skills needed for seeking employment in the agriculture industry.

Participants submit a cover letter and resume that reflect their current skills and abilities targeted to a job for which they would like to apply. They also participate in mock interviews with a panel of possible employers.

The top four individuals in the state received trophies from the state sponsor, Florida FFA Alumni Association. Other individuals in the top four that were recognized:

4th place: Sarah McDaniel, Deland

3rd place: Clayton Lyons, Baker County

2nd place: Mallory Morgan, Suwannee

Carlton also received a travel scholarship from the Florida FFA Alumni Association to help defray the cost of traveling to compete for the national title at the National FFA Convention in October.

Ashley McLeod Wins State Prepared Public Speaking Contest

Orlando, Fla. – Ashley McLeod of the Laurel Hill FFA Chapter won the State FFA Prepared Public Speaking Contest. McLeod was honored at the 84th Annual State FFA Convention.

The FFA Prepared Public Speaking Event is designed to develop agricultural leadership through public speaking activities and to stimulate interest in leadership and citizenship. Participants may choose any current subject of an agricultural nature for their speeches. This may include agriscience and technology, agribusiness, agri-marketing, international agricultural relations and agricultural communications. Speeches are between six and eight minutes long and are followed with five minutes of questioning.

The top five finalists in the state received trophies from the state sponsor, Florida Association of Agricultural Educators. Other finalists in the top five were:

5th place: Jake Mayo, South Sumter

4th place: Megan Stein, Sebring Sr.

3rd place: Alexandra Morneau, Lake Butler

2nd place: Sarah Trimm, Bronson

McLeod also received a travel scholarship from the Florida Association of Agricultural Educators to help defray the cost of traveling to compete for the national title at the National FFA Convention in October.

Lake Butler FFA Chapter Named Top Parliamentary Procedure Team in State

Orlando, Fla. – The Lake Butler FFA Chapter won the State Parliamentary Procedure Career Development Event. The chapter was honored at the 84th Annual State FFA Convention.

The Parliamentary Procedure Career Development Event teaches students to use parliamentary procedure to conduct an orderly and efficient business meeting, demonstrate knowledge of parliamentary law, and present a logical, realistic and convincing debate on motions. The contest also includes a team’s ability to record complete and accurate minutes. The event also serves as a leadership development activity.

The top four teams in the state received trophies and individual members of the first place team received trophies from the state sponsor, Florida Farm Bureau Federation. Other chapters in the top four were:

4th place: Sneads

3rd place: Strawberry Crest

2nd place: Lafayette

Lake Butler FFA Chapter team members include Ryan Perez, Kayla Freeman, Morgan Dukes, Michaela Joyner, Taylor Wilkins, William Brown, Case Emerson and Savannah Woodall.

For their success the state winning team also received a travel scholarship from the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services to help defray the cost of traveling to compete for the national title at the National FFA Convention in October.

Mylie Feaster Wins State Extemporaneous Speaking Contest

Orlando, Fla. – Mylie Feaster of the Durant FFA Chapter won the State FFA Extemporaneous Speaking Contest. Feaster was honored at the 84th Annual State FFA Convention.

The FFA Extemporaneous Public Speaking Career Development Event is designed to develop the ability of all FFA members to express their opinions on given subjects without having prepared or rehearsed its content in advance. This gives the FFA members an opportunity to formulate their remarks for presentation in a very limited amount of time. Contestants draw three topics from a pool of twelve, 30 minutes prior to the event. The topics include agriscience and technology, agri-marketing and international relations, food and fiber systems and urban agriculture.

The top five finalists in the state received trophies from the state sponsor, Florida Farm Bureau Federation. Other finalists in the top five include:

5th place: Esteban Cajigas, Timber Creek

4th place: Ashley McLeod, Laurel Hill

3rd place: Kelsey Waters, Keystone

2nd place: Cecelia Koon, Lafayette

Feaster also received a travel scholarship from the Florida Farm Bureau Federation to help defray the cost of traveling to compete for the national title at the National FFA Convention in October.

Adrian Dyer Honored as Top Speaker in the Creed Speaking Career Development Event

Orlando, Fla. – Adrian Dyer of the Elton Hinton FFA Chapter won the Creed Speaking Career Development Event. Dyer was recognized at the 84th Annual State FFA Convention.

Participants provide an oral presentation and answer questions directly related to the FFA Creed. FFA members have four minutes to present the FFA Creed from the current FFA Manual. E.M. Tiffany wrote the creed.

The top five finalists in the state received trophies from the state sponsor, Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College. Other finalists in the top five include:

5th place: William Jameson, South Sumter Jr.

4th place: Heather Yoder, Blountstown

3rd place: Sarah Bartholemy, Cedar Key

2nd place: Brendon Register, Taylor Jr.

Dyer also received a travel scholarship from Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College to help defray the cost of traveling to compete for the national title at the National FFA Convention in October.

Strawberry Crest Jr. FFA Chapter Named Top Agriculture Issues Forum Team in State

Orlando, Fla. – The Strawberry Crest Jr. FFA Chapter won the Agriculture Issues Forum Career Development Contest. The chapter was honored at the 84th Annual State FFA Convention.

The purpose of the agriculture issues forum is to present a current issue to the audience using professional ethics and standards. Students make presentations as a team to demonstrate their knowledge of current issues facing agriculture at the local, state and national levels.

The top five teams in the state received trophies and individual members of the first place team and the high individual of the contest received trophies from the state sponsor, the University of Florida Collegiate FFA. Other chapters in the top five include:

5th place: Sickles

4th place: Sneads

3rd place: Strawberry Crest

2nd place: Pine Ridge

Strawberry Crest Jr. FFA Chapter members who participated in the event include Richelle Sapp, Rachelle Sapp, Lindsey Killebrew, Morgan Gaudens, Danielle Mayo and McKenzie Greene.

For their success the state winning team also received a travel scholarship from J.J. and Jennifer Grow to help defray the cost of traveling to compete for the national title at the National FFA Convention in October.
